Project Description
NEVERSWEAT
COPPER CITY
This trail is almost everything a downhiller could want. Dropping off a rocky ridge north of Three Forks, MT on a nondescript parcel of BLM land, Neversweat is part of the larger Copper City trail network. Copper City is a wonderful cooperative project between Southwest Montana Mountain Bike Association (SWMMBA) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) that will eventually have close to 30 miles of bike optimized trails, maybe more.
Distinctly different terrain than the dense forests Terraflow traditionally builds in, Neversweat snakes its way through virtually treeless ridges, gullies and ramps of crumbling limestone. Being Copper City’s first “bikes only” and “downhill only” trail, we wanted to capture as many nuances of old and new-school downhilling and freeriding as possible in one trail, while keeping it accessible to solid intermediate riders. It seems as though we accomplished that goal.
“Neversweat is the best trail in Montana.”
– YT Demo Team
Technical rock moves over grippy limestone ridges and slabs greet riders at the entrance, where spooky burnt remnants of scrubby trees speak of a fast moving fire. Ledges drop into hand built capture berms which gradually give way to machine built flow features, starting small and growing in size towards the bottom.
We intentionally built the upper flow features with a tiny 17 size excavator to soften the transition from hand built to machine built tread. As the terrain flattens into a broad tilting meadow, the 50 size excavator took over, building a line of friendly tabletop airs that lead into a finale of sculpted dirt freeride features with two distinct lines, one for intermediates and one for experts. It may not look like much from the highway, but if you ever find yourself near Three Forks, do yourself a favor and come do a lap.
